Your Qualification: - New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Advanced Support) (Level 4)
- New Zealand Diploma in Health and Wellbeing (Practice/Applied Practice) (Level 5)
Your Career Pathways
The aim of this programme is to give learners the knowledge and skills to provide person-centered care to those living with disabilities or mental health conditions. This programme is also a pathway to further studies in the areas of health, disability, or mental health and addiction. Graduates will be able to work in –
- Residential support for disabilities
- Community worker
- Disabilities services officer
- Family support worker
- Residential care officer
- Intellectual disability
- Physical disability
- Learning disabilities
- Dementia support
- Mental health support
- Students may also go to a pathway of further learning such as a Diploma in Enrolled Nursing, a Diploma in Addiction Studies, and other undergraduate degree programmes in Health
Entry Requirements
Domestic Students:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in health such as the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Well-being Level 3 with strands in Health Assistance or Social Support or work experience in a health field for a minimum of three years.
- At least 16 years of age at programme start date.
- There are no minimum academic requirements for applicants 20 years of age and over.
International Students
- At least 18 years of age at programme start date.
- Bachelor’s degree in a health related field or a relevant tertiary qualification in health such as the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Well-being Level 3 with strands in Health Assistance or Social Support or work experience in a health field for a minimum of three years.
- The English Proficiency Entry Requirements for Level 5 Programmes. You may be required to take supplemental English language courses despite meeting the requirements.
- Student Visa, Medical and Travel Insurance.
Your Learnings

- Use ethical and Professional behavior in a disability setting.
- Apply person-centered models of care for a person living with a disability.
- Employ communication in response to vulnerability in a multicultural communication context.
- Integrate knowledge of disability and mental health support services into a support plan for a person living with a disability.
- Combine knowledge of mental health and addiction models of recovery to facilitate rehabilitation goals.
- Critically integrate government strategies and initiatives for Maori and Pasifika into support goals for tangata whenua living with a disability.
- Evaluate own support practice in a reflective manner.
