This programme paves the way for students to work in areas promoting health, wellness, and social support or advance to further studies.
Programme Duration: 22 delivery weeks; 87 delivery weeks combined with the Disabilities and Mental Health Programme
Your Qualification: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3)
Your Career Pathways
The aim of this programme is to provide students with the skills and knowledge to work in the disability sector or further study in health and disability.
Entry Requirements
Domestic Students:
- 8 credits at NCEA Level 1 in English (4 in reading, 4 in writing).
- Minimum of 3 years secondary education.
- At least 16 years of age at programme start date.
- There are no minimum academic requirements for applicants 20 years of age and over.
International Students:
- At least 18 years of age at programme start date.
- Year 12 or 13 qualification or equivalent (high school) with at least one science subject.
- Must meet the English Proficiency Entry Requirements for Level 3 Programmes or at Level 5 if combined with the Disability and Mental Health programme. You may be required to take supplemental English language courses despite meeting the requirements.
- Student Visa, Medical and Travel Insurance.
Your Learnings

- Show professionalism and ethical behavior in a disability setting.
- Employ effective communication and behavioural management strategies.
- Apply knowledge of safe practice for medication assistance, safe handling and infection control.
- Use natural supports and community participation to support the independence of persons living with a disability.
- Apply safe cultural practices and awareness of cultural differences in a person-centered care model.
