We’re not just a training and education provider. We’re family! The Kauri experience is filled with stimulating classes and tough testing and it ends with widely-recognized and well-earned qualifications – but through all of that (and even after), Kauri provides its students with the care they need to succeed both inside and outside our classrooms.
When at Kauri, expect to be welcomed into a community driven by a passion to educate as well as empower. When in campus, our faculty and staff members are eager to provide guidance and support. When out, students are always happy to show one another around beautiful New Zealand (Auckland and Christchurch).
It’s important to us that you have a suitable place to say while you’re studying at Kauri. You may contact Emmie Aban at eaban@kauriacademy.ac.nz for help in finding accommodation in New Zealand. Please note that we do not arrange student accommodations but will happily provide advice and support. Students may also come to us for concerns regarding their current accommodations.
We recommend that you budget your minimum basic personal living expenses at around NZ$1,250 per month. This amount includes accommodation, food, clothing, and entertainment, etc. It does not include tuition fees.

Medical and Travel Insurance
International students (including group students) must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while studying in New Zealand.
Any student who arrives on their first day of study at Kauri Academy without appropriate insurance will be required to purchase insurance before commencing their programme.
Eligibility For Health Services
Most international students are not entitled to publicly-funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Full details on entitlements to publicly-funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health, and can be viewed on their website at www.moh.govt.nz.
Accident Insurance
The Accident Compensation Corporation provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may still be liable for all other medical and related costs. Further information can be viewed on the ACC website at http://www.acc.co.nz.
International students must have appropriate and valid medical and travel insurances before commencing their programmes at Kauri.
Kauri can arrange insurance for students as part of the application and enrolment processes. Students may also arrange insurance themselves but must make sure that their providers meet the minimum standards prescribed by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students. Kauri recommends that students secure insurance from New Zealand-based providers and that students seek written attestation that the policies offered are consistent with the requirements of the Code.
Kauri recommends the following New Zealand insurance providers – Southern Cross, Vero Student Safe, and Orbit Protect.
Kindly obtain and maintain appropriate immigration documentation during your study. Kauri will check the validity of the visas and permits at enrolment as well as retain a copy in each student’s personal file.
Full details of visa and permit requirements and information and advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying and after completion of your programme, can be viewed on www.immigration.govt.nz. See also Student Visa Guide.
We encourage you to secure their visas as soon as possible as the application process may take up to a few months. If you are looking to work while studying, remember to apply for the necessary variations in their visas.
Working while studying can be a good way to support yourself while you’re in New Zealand as well as get yourself some useful work training. Exposing yourself to a workplace while you’re here gives you an early opportunity to apply your learnings as well as further develop your skills in communication and teamwork.
Just a few friendly reminders – you should keep within the allowable work hours on your visa and always be sure to balance your work hours with your study obligations to keep your academic performance up to Kauri standards.
In your first week at Kauri, we’ll conduct an orientation intended to provide you with information regarding your programmes, our facilities, the support services available, and our rules and regulations. You will also meet the administrative and academic personnel of the school and be given an opportunity to seek further clarification and advice.
New Zealand education providers have an important role in ensuring the well-being of their international students. The Pastoral Code sets out the minimum standards of advice and care that are expected of education providers (like Kauri!).
Full details of what is covered can be found in the Code itself. Click here for a copy of Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students 2016 in English and other languages.
Kauri Academy has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students published by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority.
